Hosting objectives
Start with availability targets, connectivity dependencies, operational access, security requirements and recovery expectations.
Location and network paths
Choose locations based on the actual path between platform components and external counterparties. Geographic proximity alone does not guarantee low latency.
Redundancy design
Identify single points of failure across compute, network, DNS, storage and external connectivity. Define how failover is initiated and tested.
Monitoring
Monitor service availability, resource pressure, application health and network behavior. Alerts should be actionable and routed to named responders.
Security and access
Use least privilege, protected administrative access, logging and controlled change procedures. Separate routine operations from high-impact administrative capabilities.
Backups and recovery
Document backup scope, retention, restoration procedures and recovery objectives. A backup is only useful if restoration is periodically tested.
Operational handover
Maintain architecture diagrams, dependency lists, access ownership and escalation contacts so the environment can be supported consistently.
